PS3 Shooter Resistance 2 is Getting its Multiplayer Back

Resistance 2 Rises From the Dead: A Fallen PS3 Shooter Is Getting Its Multiplayer Back

For over a decade, Resistance 2 has sat frozen in single-player-only purgatory, its once-thriving online battles silenced when Sony pulled the plug on its servers back in 2014. That silence is finally starting to break. Modder VGFury is spearheading an ambitious project to bring the game roaring back to life, restoring both its competitive multiplayer and its beloved dedicated co-op campaign — giving PS3 owners a real shot at reliving one of the console's most underrated shooters the way it was meant to be played. As first reported by Time Extension

Still Early, But Already Promising

Don't grab your controller just yet — the revival is currently in early alpha testing, meaning there's still work ahead before this becomes something the wider community can jump into. Still, the project has already generated genuine buzz, thanks to gameplay footage shared by FPS enthusiast Bitter Roman, offering fans their first real look at Resistance 2's online modes functioning again after more than ten years of dormancy.

Part of a Bigger Mission to Save PS3 Multiplayer

Resistance 2 isn't VGFury's only target, either. The modder is reportedly working on similar revival efforts for two other beloved PS3 titles: Killzone 3 and MAG, both of which suffered the same fate of losing their official servers over the years. Taken together, these projects paint a picture of a growing, dedicated effort to rescue PS3-era online gaming from being lost to history entirely — proving that even shooters long left for dead can still find their way back to the battlefield.
